Teaching Philosophy & Personal Mission Statement
My early career in the emerging computer field provided exposure to analysis, design and implementation of computer systems for industrial and commercial environments at International and Multinational levels. Collaboration with application domain specialists and users internal and external to companies, and globally, honed interpersonal, ethical, and collaborative skills in culturally diverse teams. In addition, consultation and negotiation with professionals internationally has distilled into a leadership credo of adaptability, consideration of alternative viewpoints and an ability to attain consensus. This experience has influenced my philosophy of teaching and learning as complimentary activities:
“Teaching and learning are two sides of the pedagogical equation, with both sides contributing to the processes of advancing understanding and knowledge”.
In my role as educator I aim to facilitate the learning process of my students by cultivating lateral problem-solving abilities, and by: • Supporting the diverse cognitive styles of knowledge acquisition of my students • Offering opportunities to understand and apply the theoretical concepts of Business Management to real-world applications • Exposing the students to state-of-the-art technologies in support of Strategic Business Management, Ethics, Organizational Behavior, International e-Commerce Management, Risk & Quality Management, Strategic and Tactical Planning, and Knowledge Management. • Exposing the students to relevance of business governance alignment with business objectives where the management of information technology serves as a business enabler. • Researching the trends in management of information technology.
To support the last two objectives I invite skilled professionals in industry and business into my classroom to share their perspectives on chosen topics. Having devoted most of my career spanning almost thirty years to educating business professionals and adult learners I see the evolution of information technology management as an exciting and realizable opportunity to bring knowledge to every person who may have been excluded by the traditional educational system.
There are three fundamental elements to teaching courses at college level, the foundational element which consists of the theoretical subject matter, the application of the subject matter to industry and technology fields, and lastly the learning environment, which must encourage the student and mentor the student to think rationally, analytically, ethically, and develop skills which will be utilized in their professional careers.
I consider it a serious responsibility to provide timely feedback and grades to my students on assignments and discussions, and encourage those students who show initiative and exceptional answers on their assigned work to share their solutions with the class. This is typically done by creating an electronic board discussion thread.
It is my policy and practice to apply the subject matter to the industry by including presentation materials taken from my 30-year work experience, personal publications, research interests, professional journals and technical web sites.
My Teaching Philosophy focuses on developing scholar-practitioners through learning that incorporates both theoretical knowledge and relevant experience. Learners develop along a continuum of scholarship and practical application. This emphasizes collaboration: learners with peers, learners with faculty, and faculty with faculty within and across interdisciplinary fields of study. Consequently, both learners and faculty move along the continuum, reflecting together on their experiences, building and applying knowledge, participating in communities of learning, and making theoretical and practical contributions to their fields.
The contemporary professional environment, especially in the USA, demands lifelong learning from employees at all levels of an enterprise, a challenge that is eminently served by the inspirational scholarly model of Georgia Gwinnet College (GGC). To meet this challenge I adopt flexible modes of course delivery, complemented by digital instructional technologies, to serve the students enrolled in GGC programs.
Finally, at this point in my academic career I consider it a great privilege to be involved in the implementation and establishment of a unique inspirational experience that integrates many of my ideas regarding learning, scholarship, ethical leadership, global understanding, professionalism and service. My goal is to impart my passion for knowledge and intellectual rigor to my students by leading the way through example.

What have I learned?
- I learned that in College we learn the lessons first, then we face the exams… but in life, we're first confronted with the exams and afterward we learn the lessons
- I learned that a simple or short dialogue with a wise person equals a month of study
- I learned that it does not matter where you are now… what truly matters is which direction you are heading at this moment in your life
- I learned that it is better to be a turtle heading in the right direction… than a deer running the wrong path
- I learned that the key to disappointment is trying to please everyone you know
- I learned that a job well done is far better than a great talk
- I learned that people forget the speed at which you completed your work…. But remember the quality of your accomplishment
- I learned that a good climber focuses on the target and doesn’t look downward… where fears and doubts that distract the mind are plentiful
- I learned that there are those who swim toward the ship…. And there are those who waste their time waiting for it.
- I learned that he who wins in the end is the one who has the strength to endure and persevere
- I learned that one must dream of the stars… but at the same time remember that his feet are on the ground
- I learned that there’s a huge difference between taking a step back …. And escaping
- I learned that a fruitful tree … is most confronted by people
- I learned that every great feat in life … started with a mere thought
- I learned that a sincere smile costs nothing …. But radiates abundant positive suggestion
