Due: Monday, April 29,2013 11:59 pm

Overview: You will construct some rudimentary models and animations in Blender

Topics: Animation, GGC Wiki

Blender Download: blender.org. Windows users, please download the Installer. Mac users, please download the version that corresponds to the type of Mac listed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read all instructions thoroughly and carefully before calling on the instructor for help. Please remember that your neighbors, the Blender help menus and the internet are also all resources that you can consult. Please begin early to give yourself time to ask questions and resolve any technical difficulties.

If you want me to look over your project before you turn it in, please see me in person during class or during my office hours. I will not review projects submitted via e-mail.

Before You Begin

1. Edit your Student Profile page to include a link to your Project 4 page.

2. If you're using a Mac, go to System Preferences and make sure the mouse matches the configuration below:

Part I: Basic 3D Shapes

1. Run Blender

2. Inside Blender, build the the following objects:

  • A green Cylinder
  • A red Sphere

3. Make sure both of these objects are in clear view of the Blender camera.

4. Render and save an image of these objects.

5. Upload the resulting .jpg file and update the wiki template.

6. Save your Blender project to your thumb drive for personal reference.

Part II: Intermediate 3D Shapes

1. Run Blender

2. Make two colored cylinders. Each cylinder must be a distinctly different color.

3. Push one cylinder through the other at 90 degrees.

4. Make the intersection of the two objects.

5. Drag the new intersection out so that it is sitting next to the crossed cylinders.

6. Make sure all three objects (both cylinders and the intersection) are in the same camera view.

7. Render and save an image of these objects.

8. Take these new objects and move them out of the camera view so that you can build the next objects.

9. Make a colored sphere and a cube. Each shape must be a distinctly different color.

10. Place them together so that the cube is poking out of the sphere.

11. Make the difference of the sphere and the cube such that you end up with a sphere with a square hole.

12. Drag the new difference out so that it is sitting next to the sphere with the embedded cube.

13. Make sure both objects are in the camera view. If necessary, rotate the objects so that you can see the hole in one sphere and the cube in the other.

14. Render and save an image of these objects.

15. Now place all five objects from this part (both cylinders, both spheres and the cylinder intersection) into the camera view together.

16. Create a colored plane behind these objects.

17. Arrange the light source so that the objects cast a shadow on the plane.

18. Render and save an image of these objects.

19. Upload the resulting three .jpg files and update the wiki template.

20. Save your Blender project to your thumb drive for personal reference.
